Symptoms

When you open up Outlook Express, type an email and try to send it, you receive an error message stating that you server cannot be found.

Cause

This occurs when the option labeled hang up after send and receive is checked in Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook.

Resolution

To correct this issue, open the Outlook version you are using, click on Tools, then Options, then click on the Connections tab. You will then see a check mark in the box next to ‘hang up after send/receive. Remove that check mark and click ‘OK.’
