Symptoms
Trouble with uploading web pages to web space.
Resolution
There are 2 types of connection types for FTP client software
- Active and Passive.
Internet Explorer can be used as an FTP client and should by
default be set to ACTIVE, this can be changed to PASSIVE under
the ADVANCED options in IE. Some windows FTP clients are automatically
set up as PASV and must be changed to ACTIVE (sometimes referred
to as PORT). These settings are located in different spots depending
on the client but they are normally under something like OPTIONS
-> CONNECTION or some ADVANCED menu.
You must put all the files you want to be viewed on their site
in the PUBLIC_HTML directory. A majority of customer’s FTP
settings should appear as follows:
-=[ Basic Setup ]=-
Host: home.chilitech.net
Username: <their_username>
Password: <their_password>
Port: 21
-=[ Advanced Setup ]=-
Connection Type: ACTIVE (PORT)
Default Directory: public_html (not necessary)
Customer's website: http://home.chilitech.net/~<their_username>
